on fire

this morning was VERY intense.

ben had a game against the other undefeated team in the league.
the boys didn't really know or care
and i didn't even really care that much
UNTIL their coach opened his mouth.
he was SO over the top for 2nd and 3rd graders.
he was loud.
he was obnoxious.
it was obvious he isn't used to losing
and
he didn't intend to lose today's game either.

THANKFULLY ...
ben's team brought their A game
and
ben was ON FIRE!
he calls himself a mini lebron james -
nothing like a little humility, right ;)
he was taking shots from the outside
and sinking each one.
although their coach told his players to foul ben -
even that didn't stop him!
it was SO fun to watch!

we were ahead the entire game.
i kept the thought that they could come back in the back of my mind ...
but thankfully they never did.

we ended up winning  ...

 

and it was so satisfying!

and what's crazy ...
it's not because they were undefeated and we were undefeated
it's not because it was a good game.
mostly it's just because their coach was just such a jerk ;)
he yelled at the refs.
he yelled at the kids.
he yelled at everyone.
this is 2nd and 3rd grade basketball
those kids are out there for fun
and
there is just no reason for it
and now you know how i really feel ;)

way to go, boys!
you played a GREAT game!
i am SO glad you didn't get hurt
and
i just have to ask ONE favor ...
today i was so taken by the intensity of it all that i took no video and FIVE pictures total -
and of those five - ben is not in a single one ;)
way to capture his best game yet, right?
SO ...
next time ... could you just do the exact same thing?!

the advantages to having my own blog
on the way out, their coaches asked our coach if ben always shoots like that ...
to which our coach responded ... "pretty much ... yes ;)"
glad they took the time to notice you, ben!
